On March 22, 2013, at approximately 2:37 PM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a person stabbed in the 900 block of North First Street. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives immediately began a comprehensive investigation and identified Juan Ramirez as the suspect. Suspect Ramirez fled to Mexico and his whereabouts were unknown.

On July 16, 2024, the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) successfully apprehended Suspect Ramirez and took him into custody in Mexico to await extradition to the United States.

On March 7, 2025, Suspect Ramirez was extradited from Mexico to California, and was subsequently booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.

This was the City's 10th homicide of 2013.

"The San José Police Department will pursue all suspects who flee from justice, especially someone as violent and dangerous as Juan Ramirez," stated SJPD Chief of Police Paul Joseph. "Our victim passed away twelve years ago, but she was never forgotten. Since the day she was murdered, our Homicide Detectives worked relentlessly to find the suspect. Now we have Suspect Ramirez back in San José, ready to be held accountable for this atrocious killing."

This investigation and arrest was made possible by the dedicated effort of our San José Police Department Homicide Unit. In addition, we want to thank INTERPOL, the U.S. Marshals Service in Mexico, U.S. Department of Justice's Office of International Affairs, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for their partnership on this case.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Lieutenant Barg #3640 of the San José Police Department’s Homicide Unit via email: 3640@sanjoseca.gov or at 408-277-5283.
