Cops Care Cancer Foundation's 20th Annual Fantasy Flight

Post Date:12/13/2024 11:30 AM

MEDIA ADVISORY

The Cops Care Cancer Foundation is hosting its 20th Annual Fantasy Flight, a magical holiday celebration designed to create unforgettable memories for children battling cancer and their families. Fantasy Flight allows children experiencing medical challenges to immerse themselves in the joy of the holiday season, while their families share in the magic and build connections with others facing similar challenges, creating a sense of support and belonging.

This year we have one hundred Bay Area families attending who have a child stricken with cancer. These families are referred to the Foundation via social workers from Stanford Children's Hospital and UCSF Children's Hospital. The San José Police Department is the hosting law enforcement agency for Fantasy Flight, and we will be joined by approximately twelve Bay Area law enforcement agencies. Dignitaries in attendance will include San José Mayor Matt Mahan, San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire, and SJPD Chief of Police Paul Joseph. We will also have allied agency Chiefs, Sheriffs, and command staff present.

Date: Saturday, December 14, 2024

Location: San José International Airport, SJPD Air Hangar - 1455 Airport Boulevard, San José

Schedule:
10:45 AM: Families arrive by Presidential-style motorcade

1:00 PM: Santa arrives via SJPD's AIR 3 helicopter, RAIN OR SHINE! If there is no wind we will be highlighting the helicopter's new hoist system which will have Santa being lowered to the ground from approximately 100-feet in the air.

1:15 PM: Santa meets with each family and poses for a family portrait. Gifts that have been specifically purchased for each child and their siblings will then be given out.

Parking: Media may park in the "Reserved Section". Ask any traffic control personnel for directions to those parking spots. Media may also park in front of the air hangar in designated areas.

Media inquiries can be directed to Retired SJPD Officer and President of Cops Care Cancer Foundation Brian Simuro: (415) 810-7676 or Bsimuro@gmail.com.
